How to Help in Southern Nevada

There are approximately 5,300 people facing homeless in Southern Nevada, and now with the rise of inflation and uncertainty, Southern Nevada needs our help. It has always been Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada’s mission to serve those in need, especially the most vulnerable individuals regardless of race, religion, or creed. There is no better community resource than this one that meets the diverse needs of men, women, and children in Southern Nevada by offering help, guidance, and hope in a dignified and respectful manner.

If you are looking to provide assistance to the community of Southern Nevada, but aren’t sure where to start, then this guide will offer a variety of options and resources for how you can help the community.

Donate to Local nonprofit Organizations

Donations are just an act that can help hundreds within Southern Nevada get proper food, clothing, or hygiene products. There are a lot of nonprofit organizations that make sure those within the community get proper and nutritious meals as well as the basic necessities they need to sustain themselves. Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada is a non-profit organization and we accept a variety of donations from food, monetary donations, and hygiene products. We accept and appreciate every donation that comes through our door, since we know how much of a difference it makes to those within our community. At Catholic Charities we operate 16 programs providing support to more than 4,000 people daily and encompassing four core areas: Family Services, Food Services, Immigration, and Refugee Services, and Homeless and Housing Services.  It has always been our mission to help those who are the most vulnerable and we will continuously strive to meet the diverse needs of men, women, and children in Southern Nevada.

Of course, there are other organizations within Southern Nevada to donate to, such as Project 150 that provides support to homeless or displaced and disadvantaged high school students. They provide food, clothing, hygiene products, and school supplies to students in need.

Or there is Dress For Success, an organization here within Southern Nevada that helps women gain economic independence. There are hundreds of organizations across the valley and each are in need of support in order to strengthen the community around us.

Volunteering at Different Organizations

When you Volunteer with an organization or non profit that aligns with your interests or beliefs, you get to see directly how you are impacting the community. A lot of people enjoy volunteering because they get to make personal connections with those in Southern Nevada that are just in need of some extra assistance. It can be difficult to limit yourself to volunteering with only one organization, that is why volunteering with different programs in Southern Nevada can help you gain a perspective on the community around you and how everyone supports one another.

Catholic Charities offers a variety of programs for individuals who are looking to give back to their communities to volunteer. From our Hands of Hope Food Pantry to Remote Service options, we offer a variety of different volunteer opportunities for people to get themselves involved with their community and use their skills and experience to help those within the community get the proper care they need.

Now more than ever programs such as Project 150 or Dress For Success need the help of their community’s valuable time to help those in need. There is such high demand for volunteers that the Clark County government is asking for help counting unsheltered people experiencing homelessness in the Las Vegas valley on January 26. If you have any time to spare to help those in need, our community truly needs your help as we will continuously be working towards helping one another within Southern Nevada.

Boosting Awareness

Any help is a huge step towards helping those in need there is no such thing as a small task. Making social media posts about different events like food drives or volunteering events happening within Southern Nevada boosts awareness among people within the community or even outside the community about the different ways they can give back.

Knowing is half the battle, and if no one is aware of these different events or organizations then it makes it more difficult for them to give the proper care to those around them. Catholic Charities for instance hosts a lot of different events within our campus and we appreciate every repost, share, or posting of our events so that we can try to bring people together for these events to help those vulnerable individuals within our community.

Social media is a very valuable tool, but also word of mouth is just as important. Encouraging company or organization volunteering helps your team grow stronger as we all pitch in to help the community. We allow companies or organizations to sign their groups up to assist with our Community Meals or Hands of Hope Food Pantry, if you’re interested in volunteering with your teammates, be sure to send an email to  development@catholiccharities.com and block out a proper time for everyone to lend a hand.

Over 2,000,000 people live within Southern Nevada and each person has the potential to change the lives of hundreds of individuals who may be experiencing difficult times in their lives. It is our job as a nonprofit organization to assure that these vulnerable individuals are given better opportunities no matter of their race, religion, or creed.

However you choose to give back to the community, it is greatly appreciated. Rather than just helping those in need, it is rewarding to see the community lift one another up together.
