Building Brighter Futures for New Nevadans: Refugee and Immigration Services at Catholic Charities

October 13, 2025

Adjusting to a new place to call home can be difficult, especially if it’s a new state, country, climate, or language. Establishing your family somewhere new can take time and help from the community in more ways than one. Settling into this new location and time of life may also require help from refugee and immigration services near you. To help in this regard, Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada created and fostered growth in our immigration and refugee services. Whether you know someone who needs help, want to find ways to show your support, or need assistance yourself, we’re here to guide you and help in any way we can. We offer free citizenship classes, youth mentorship programs, English language classes, and more for those seeking our services. Learn more about our aid programs for immigrants, migrants, and refugees below or pledge a donation to help.

Adult Education: Citizenship, English, & High School Equivalency Courses

Oftentimes opportunities for work may require a certain level of education or English speaking and writing. To assist new members of our community in this, we offer free English courses as well as High School Equivalency (HSE) courses. In addition, Catholic Charities offers free citizenship classes near you to help achieve U.S. citizenship in a timely manner after settling in Las Vegas. All of these educational courses are intended to help with acclimation to your new home, from speaking a common language to being more qualified for a job.

Youth Mentorship

Along with adult education, we offer a range of services including a Youth Mentorship Program for ages 15 to 24. We pair volunteer mentors with children to assist them with academic support, college preparation, English language practice, career development, application assistance for financial aid and scholarships, as well as cultural immersion support. Our volunteer mentors can help young people settle into their new normal and encourage them to prosper academically and socially. Learn more about this program and sign up to be a mentor with Catholic Charities by filling out the form on our Youth Mentorship page or contacting us by phone at (775)471-5831.
