Celebrate National Volunteer Week 2025 This April With Catholic Charities

April 11, 2025

Each April, National Volunteer Week is celebrated and recognized from the 20th to 26th of the month. During this week, we encourage you to volunteer with Catholic Charities and be a part of something bigger than yourself. This national week falls within Global Volunteer Month, a time to see the positive impact volunteerism has on our society and communities and to sign up and find volunteering opportunities near you.

The Origin of Volunteering

The act of volunteering has practically always been around, from volunteer hospitals in medieval times to volunteer militias that fought in the Revolutionary War. Now, volunteering opportunities are offered by numerous organizations, including Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada. Famous volunteers and humanitarians include actress Audrey Hepburn, Red Cross Founder Clara Barton, and Mother Teresa. Each of these women are known for their kindness, dedication to service, and incredible lasting impacts on society.

The Importance of Volunteering and Community Service

Volunteers and those involved in community service have and continue to make huge impacts on the lives of those around them. Whether volunteering at a food pantry or a women and children’s shelter, holding a clothing drive, working as a camp counselor, or volunteering at a hospital, the trickle down effects of volunteer work are incredible. According to government research, more than 28.3% of Americans formally volunteered through an organization in 2023. Catholic Charities has personally seen hundreds of volunteers making a difference in the Las Vegas area over the years and we hope to see even more as we continue in our mission to provide help and hope to those in need.

Volunteer Opportunities Near You

To celebrate National Volunteer Week, we invite you to find volunteer opportunities and community service near you. Catholic Charities offers a variety of opportunities including serving meals at our St. Vincent Lied Dining Facility, working at our Hands of Hope Food Pantry, becoming a youth mentor, and more. Our charity depends on the service of community members looking to help Las Vegas and all its residents flourish despite hardships. If you cannot donate your time by volunteering, we invite you to make a monetary, food, or vehicle donation if you are able. Donations of any size are welcome and valued, nothing goes unnoticed or unappreciated.
