Catholic Charities Of Southern Nevada Asks For Community Support As Inflation Affects Food Services For Community's Most Vulnerable

November 2, 2022

Nonprofit kicks operations into high gear, asking the community for food donations as Thanksgiving need is expected to surge during 2022 inflation rate increase

Las Vegas – Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada (CCSN) is once again calling on the community for major support this Thanksgiving as the nation faces a rising inflation rate and food cost in 2022. CCSN persists in offering food and nutrition to the Southern Nevada’s most vulnerable, including but not limited to, neighbors in the community who are food insecure, homeless and homebound seniors.

“While facing the challenges of supply and demand currently felt nationwide, we are committed to provide everyone a chance to celebrate Thanksgiving,” said Deacon Tom Roberts, CEO, Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada. “But we need as much help as we can from those who are able. As you make your plans for your own Thanksgiving traditions, please consider helping those who need it. Even a small donation of food, funds or volunteer time can make a huge difference for someone else this holiday season.”

On Tuesday, Oct. 18, CCSN kitchen staff conducted substantial prep-work, producing and plating thousands of meals ahead of time, so they are able to deliver double the amount of Meals on Wheels packages to nearly 2,500 homebound seniors the week before Thanksgiving.

The organization’s food pantry goal is to provide a frozen turkey and meal fixings to meet expected demand to 3,500 registered families. Donations of turkeys and nonperishable dinner fixings such as boxed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, green beans, cranberry sauce, and canned yams will be accepted daily from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Catholic Charities campus, located at 1501 Las Vegas Blvd. North, Las Vegas, NV 89101.

CCSN will also serve its 57th consecutive free Thanksgiving meal to 600 homeless and vulnerable men, women and children as well as deliver 2,450 holiday meals to the homebound seniors through its Meals on Wheels program.
