If you’re unfamiliar with the concept of Giving Tuesday, it falls on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and is a global holiday that encourages generosity and service to your community. There’s no set way to participate in Giving Tuesday, so it’s up to you and your community to find out what ways you can best support charities and those in need near you. How Did It Start?

Giving Tuesday was originally created in 2012 in New York City as a day to encourage people to be generous and celebrate generosity in their community. Since its inception, Giving Tuesday has become an independent and international nonprofit with the same goals. 

What Is Giving Tuesday All About?

The goal of Giving Tuesday is to have a day dedicated to showing generosity and kindness to your community. This organization and holiday highlight the work being done across the globe to change and help communities in a variety of ways. With a focus on grassroots movement and impacts, this yearly holiday of giving is a reminder to care for and participate in your community and show empathy to those around you. 

Whether you are able to make a donation, volunteer, or otherwise support a cause or charity you believe in, Giving Tuesday 2025 is the perfect opportunity to do so. 

When Is Giving Tuesday 2025?

This year, Giving Tuesday is the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, December 2nd. After a day spent with those close to you and practicing gratitude, we’re hit with the wave of consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. While these provide great opportunities for holiday preparation, staying grounded in the holiday season amongst these sales and deals can be challenging. Giving Tuesday is a great way to recenter and reconnect with your community and help them prepare for the holidays, an often challenging time for many.

How Can I Participate In Las Vegas?

In Southern Nevada and Las Vegas specifically, there are many options for how to participate in Giving Tuesday 2025. Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada and its aid recipients always appreciates the donations and volunteers brought in from this holiday. You can donate to Catholic Charities monetarily or donate goods like nonperishable foods and winter clothing items. Catholic Charities also has a variety of volunteer opportunities in Las Vegas, from serving food in the St. Vincent Lied Dining Facility to helping in our Hands of Hope Community Food Pantry.
