Surviving The Heat: Hydration Tips & More To Keep Your Community Safe This Summer
Both residents and non-residents of Nevada know how hot it can be in the summer, with temperatures in July and August being able to reach up to 115°F. With that in mind, hydration is a key part of summertime for Nevadans, especially with all the opportunities to be outdoors that the state offers. Staying hydrated yourself, as well as making sure your community is able to hydrate properly is one way to show support for those around you. Keep reading to find out about how to donate water bottles, where you can find a water bottle filling station, and hydration safety tips.
Hydration Tips For Summer
There are a few ways to make sure you and those around you are staying hydrated in the heat. From finding a free water station to eating foods with high water content, the best way to stay hydrated is finding what works best for you and sticking to it.
Find A Free Water Station
Airports, casinos, national parks, and more typically have a water bottle filling station that you can use to refill a disposable or reusable water bottle. Starbucks, Chick-Fil-A, and McDonald’s typically offer free cups of water upon request as well, giving you another option if there are no water refill stations near you.
Eating Food With High Water Content
One way to balance hydration with regular food intake is to consume more foods with a high water content during hotter months. Strawberries, watermelon, celery, cucumbers, tomatoes, and more are all over 80% water. By eating some of these, which are in season during the summertime as well, you can increase hydration without drinking even more water.
Share Wealth of Hydration Through Water Donation
While staying hydrated yourself can be its own challenge, helping and encouraging those around you to do the same can be difficult. One way to help those in your community who may have limited access to water or water-rich foods is to donate water. One place that accepts water donations is Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada. Catholic Charities donations can be a variety of items, both food and other, but in the summer specifically they appreciate water donation, powdered electrolytes, and sunscreen. Donating water to those in need is one way you can support your community in the heat this summer.
