The Power of Giving: Multiple Ways to Contribute at the Burlington Coat Drive and Beyond

November 23, 2023

As the chill of winter sets in and the holiday season approaches, there's no better time to embrace the spirit of giving back to your community. One extraordinary way to make a meaningful impact during this season of giving is by participating in the Burlington Coat Drive. However, your potential for charitable contributions and community involvement extends far beyond this inspiring event. In this blog, we'll explore various ways to give, not only through the Burlington Coat Drive, but also throughout the year.

The Burlington Coat Drive

Burlington's stores have long been committed to making charitable contributions that strengthen their communities, and their involvement in the Burlington Coat Drive is a testament to this dedication. When people donate gently used or brand-new winter coats to their local Burlington store, these coats are redistributed to individuals and families in need. Over the past 15 years, Burlington’s customers, associates and vendors have donated nearly 2.5 million coats. The impact of this act of kindness is immeasurable, as it helps keep individuals warm and safe during the colder months.

The drive is currently accepting donations until December 24th, offering time for people to make their generous contributions. As a thank you, Burlington customers who donate a coat will enjoy 10 percent off their entire purchase.

Catholic Charities is proud to be one of the participating charities of this winter coat drive, further highlighting the community involvement aspect of the initiative. By partnering with Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada, the Burlington Coat Drive is delivering goods, ensuring that the donated coats are distributed efficiently to those who need them the most.

Ways to Give With Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada

Catholic Charities is seeking your generous support in making this time of year a little brighter for those in need. Acts of kindness and community support are what make the holiday season truly special, and there are various ways to give back to those less fortunate during this time.

We are asking for your support with donations to ensure families who are in need have the opportunity to celebrate the holiday season.  Donations of frozen turkeys, stuffing, boxed mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce, canned yams, canned vegetables, canned pumpkin, and canned protein will go a long way in ensuring that these families can enjoy a warm and nutritious holiday meal.

Beyond winter coat donations, Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada is also in need of various non-holiday items that can make a significant difference during the cooler months. Gently used winter clothing and jackets, shoes, hats, gloves, and new socks are essential for keeping individuals warm as temperatures drop. Welcome home baskets filled with items like laundry detergent, new kitchen towels, bath towels, dish soap, sponges, paper goods, laundry baskets, new twin sheet sets, and shower curtains provide practical support for those transitioning to new homes and trying to rebuild their lives.

Your contributions can truly make a difference. Whether you choose to donate holiday-specific items or non-holiday essentials, your act of giving will have a lasting impact on the lives of those who depend on the kindness of the community. Your generosity will provide warmth, nourishment, and a sense of home to those who might otherwise go without during this special time of year.

Offering Community Support with Volunteer Opportunities

As the holiday seasons are approaching, we welcome individuals eager to offer their support through volunteer work. Our Community Meal and Hands of Hope Food Pantry initiatives provide excellent opportunities for those willing to contribute their time and effort.

To volunteer with our Community Meal, individuals must be 14 years old or older. You will have the chance to serve meals to our guests, manage dish breakdown stations, sanitize tables, assist with dishwashing preparations, handle meal tickets, and distribute water to our guests. Our free Community Meals are served daily from 10 AM to 11 AM at our St. Vincent Lied Dining Facility, offering nutritious meals to anyone in need. With an average of 500 meals served per day, we greatly appreciate extra hands to ensure that everyone receives a meal and that the dining area remains clean and sanitary for our guests.

Additionally, with holiday donations, our Hands of Hope Food Pantry is in need of helping hands with stocking and sorting through all the donated non-perishable food items Catholic Charities receives. Our food pantry operates Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 2:00PM, providing individuals and families in need with a variety of Thanksgiving essentials, including fresh produce, canned goods, and baked items.

Catholic Charities is deeply grateful to all the volunteers who choose to spend their holidays with us, offering their support and making a positive impact on our community. Your contributions are essential in ensuring that everyone can enjoy the warmth and nourishment of the holiday season.
