The Return of The Giving Machine: Elevating Holiday Donations in Southern Nevada

December 22, 2023

Bringing Joy with Holiday Donations

As the holiday season approaches, Southern Nevada gears up for a remarkable charitable initiative — the return of The Giving Machine. This innovative vending machine phenomenon, previously embraced by the community, is making a comeback at Downtown Summerlin and is set to debut at its newest location at The District at Green Valley Ranch.

From November 15 through January 1, these Giving Machines will allow individuals to participate in the #LightTheWorld movement, an initiative by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The movement encourages people to transform Christmas into a season of service, emphasizing acts that echo the teachings of Jesus — feeding the hungry, comforting the lonely, visiting the sick, and showing kindness to everyone.

Light the World with The Giving Machine

The Giving Machines introduce a novel and heartwarming approach to giving. Departing from the conventional vending machine experience of personal purchases, these machines showcase essential items that can be bought for those in need. Whether it's a goat to help a family start a business in a third-world country or shoes for a homeless high school student in Southern Nevada, each credit card swipe contributes directly to the chosen nonprofit.

Charitable Donations Directly to Non-Profits

What sets The Giving Machines apart is their commitment to transparency. Every donation made at these machines goes directly to the designated nonprofit, ensuring that each contribution, regardless of size, makes a tangible and meaningful impact on the lives of those in need.

The partnership between The Giving Machines and Catholic Charities is symbiotic. The Giving Machines' commitment to directing donations to designated nonprofits seamlessly aligns with Catholic Charities' ethos. When individuals contribute at The Giving Machines, they are directly supporting Catholic Charities' mission to empower and uplift the vulnerable in Southern Nevada.

Catholic Charities as a Recipient of The Giving Machine

Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada stands as a pillar of compassion and service, tracing our roots back to 1941. Embracing an inclusive mission, our organization serves the most vulnerable in the community without discrimination based on age, race, religion, or creed. Catholic Charities operates 16 programs, impacting the lives of over 4,000 individuals daily. What sets our non-profit apart from others is Catholic Charities’ commitment to fostering self-sufficiency for those in need with dignity. This has been a mission carried out with unwavering dedication and support from others for over eight decades.

We owe our impactful reach to the generosity of a variety of sources, including generous foundations, volunteers, organizations, and individual donors. The Giving Machine is an innovative global charity initiative that has previously facilitated charitable donations to Catholic Charities, allowing us to amplify our impact on the vulnerable members of the Southern Nevada community.

With our team consisting of approximately 250 dedicated employees and the priceless contributions of volunteers, Catholic Charities has the ability to operate our 16 different programs with the help and generosity of others. By embracing a collaborative approach that integrates a convenient way for individuals to make charitable donations, Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada is gracious to be receiving support from The Giving Machine this year.

Giving Machine Locations 2023

The Giving Machine has a variety of locations not only across the United States, but also in other countries such as England and the Philippines. These giving machine locations have a variety of different charities that are more local to their location.

There are two different Giving Machine locations in Las Vegas that you can find this holiday season. One location is nestled next to Francesca's on the Promenade at Downtown Summerlin, situated at 2010 Festival Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89135. Visitors can find the Giving Machine across the plaza on the east side of Macy's, creating a convenient and prominent spot for those seeking to engage in acts of kindness.

The other Giving Machine is at The District at Green Valley Ranch, located at 2240 Village Walk Drive, Henderson, NV 89052. Positioned between Pottery Barn and Aerie, this location seamlessly integrates the giving experience into the vibrant shopping and entertainment hub. Placing the Giving Machines in such high-traffic areas ensures that they are easily accessible to the community, inviting residents and visitors alike to participate in the global movement of charitable donations.

Volunteering as a Holiday Donation

If you are unable to make a donation at The Giving Machine or in general, you can volunteer with Catholic Charities as a way to give back to the community. Our Community Meal and Hands of Hope Food Pantry initiatives offer exceptional opportunities for those ready to contribute their time and energy.

For volunteers interested in our Community Meal program, we welcome individuals aged 14 years and older. As a volunteer, you’ll be serving meals to our guests, managing dish breakdown stations, sanitizing tables, assisting with dishwashing preparations, handling meal tickets, and distributing water to those in need.

With the rise of donations during the holiday season, we also need assistance at our Hands of Hope Food Pantry. There, our volunteers help assist with stocking and sorting through donated non-perishable food items. The Hands of Hope Food Pantry operates Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 2:00 PM. Your involvement in any of our initiatives ensures a brighter holiday season for those we serve, and we thank you for your time and generosity.

All of us at Catholic Charities are wishing everyone a happy holiday season. You can reach out to us today to explore different ways to contribute and support during this season of giving. Let's join hands to ignite the joy of giving and create true magic for every individual in our community.
