Citizenship Classes are offered to the public free of charge

Classes are offered in a 12 week session and cover the following areas:

English as a Second Language (ESL)

  • The alphabet and basic pronunciation
  • Numbers for understanding dates, times, duration, ages relevant to the Form N-400 – citizenship application
  • Speaking and conversation skills for the Citizenship Interview including greetings and small talk
  • Naturalization vocabulary

English writing skills and practice to develop spelling and simple phrase competencies for the naturalization process
Students practice writing on Dry-Erase Boards (to simulate tablets that are used at USCIS)

The Naturalization Process and Review of Form N-400 (Citizenship Application Form)
Mock Citizenship Interviews – These are conducted by a USCIS Officer which allows students to get comfortable with the interview process, and to ask questions

American History and Civics, using USCIS text

  • American Government: Principles of American Government; System of Government; Citizens Rights and Responsibilities
  • American History: Colonial period and independence; The 1800s; Recent American history and other important historical information
  • Integrated Civics: American geography; Symbols; Holidays
