Catholic Charities Celebrates 30th Annual Thanksgiving Turkey Drive By Pardoning One Lucky Turkey
The nonprofit aims to raise 4,000 frozen turkeys to feed Southern Nevada’s most vulnerable citizens during the holiday season
WHAT: Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada (CCSN) is calling on the entire community to help collect 4,000 frozen turkeys and assorted fixings and desserts as part of their 30th Annual Thanksgiving Turkey Drive. On Thursday, Nov. 10, at 11:30 a.m., Catholic Charities will celebrate the occasion with the pardoning of a live turkey provided by Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary.
A husband and wife who work as Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officers found the pardoned turkey – Mr. Butters – in their Henderson backyard six months ago. The officers nursed Mr. Butters back to health before finding him a home at Gilcrease.
CCSN’s Annual Turkey Drive is the Las Vegas Valley’s largest turkey giveaway and ensures that thousands of our community’s most vulnerable families have a happy Thanksgiving.
Frozen turkey and food donations will be accepted through Nov. 23 at Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada’s campus, 1501 Las Vegas Blvd North, Las Vegas, NV 89101. Volunteers are also needed to help give out turkeys and assist at the food pantry from now until Nov. 23. Volunteers can sign up at www.catholiccharities.com.
