Catholic Charities Turns 78, Announces ‘Feed Vegas’ Events

Month-Long ‘Feed Vegas’ Campaign Kicks Off with a Mayor Goodman Meals on Wheels Trek (March 26) and Wraps with Community Meal (April 30)

LAS VEGAS (March 8, 2019) – Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada (CCSN) is celebrating its anniversary with meaningful action this Spring, with a string of awareness, volunteer and community events. On Tuesday, April 16, the multifaceted community organization will officially celebrate its anniversary, marking 78 years of serving the most vulnerable and in-need Southern Nevadans.

Today, Catholic Charities operates 16 programs focused on family services; food services; immigration and refugee services; and homeless and housing services.

“Since 1941, we’ve served as a vital resource for some of our most vulnerable neighbors,” said CCSN President and CEO Deacon Tom Roberts. “So, as we take a moment to celebrate our past successes, we’re also taking moments over the next month to say, ‘join us for what’s ahead.’ We are always open-arms to the new volunteers and ask that one might consider a gift to help us deliver these services for the continued need of our community. We hope these events further inspire our community and we look forward to seeing many new and familiar faces on the frontlines with us.”

The events surrounding CCSN’s anniversary spotlight the 4,200-plus Southern Nevadans the agency serves daily, with a special emphasis on its food services throughout the month of April. The month-long campaign, known as Feed Vegas, includes the following key events:

  • On Tuesday, March 26 at approximately 11:30 a.m., a Meals on Wheels truck will be loaded at the CCSN campus (1501 N. Las Vegas Blvd., Las Vegas, 89101). Shortly thereafter, Mayor Carolyn Goodman will hand-deliver a week’s worth of meals to a local Meals on Wheels client. Media will be invited along the journey. CCSN has seven Meals on Wheels trucks and 35 delivery routes in Southern Nevada.
  • During National Volunteer Month (April), CCSN will celebrate its more than 3,600 volunteers with a month-long Bingo Contest. Volunteers will receive a special bingo card at the beginning of the month and may mark off spaces related to volunteer activities completed, including donating food, volunteering multiple times and more. When volunteers achieve Bingo, they get a prize.
  • At 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, April 30, CCSN clients, volunteers, staff and members of the Southern Nevada community are invited to its Feed Vegas Celebration and Meal at the St. Vincent Lied Dining Facility on the CCSN campus (1501 N. Las Vegas Blvd., Las Vegas, 89101). In addition to a specially-crafted meal with balloons and decorations galore, everyone in attendance will receive a special Feed Vegas commemorative t-shirt.

Across all of its services, CCSN serves more than 2 million meals per year. Its food pantry provides 1.2 million pounds of food, its dining room provides nearly 250,000 meals to those in-need and its Meals on Wheels program serves more than 2,100 isolated homebound seniors daily.

CCSN is in-need of monetary and food donations to support its ongoing efforts. Among its top requested food items for donating are canned proteins, low-sodium canned vegetables, peanut butter, boxed cereal and pasta. Additionally, 10 lb. bags of cat and dog food as well as treats are requested for the nearly 650 Meals on Wheels clients with pet companions. To learn more about how to donate to CCSN, visit
